Top Issues Facing C-Level Management

September 7th, 2008

I received an email from Rachel in the US recently and i think it poses a good question that i would like to open up to the community – What are the top 10 issues facing a team of C-levels?

Rachel has started the ball rolling by suggesting the following:

  1. Regulatory/Compliance
  2. Ensuring a reliable supply chain
  3. Improving stockholder value
  4. Increasing Brand Equity
  5. Operational Excellence

I have had a think about this and from my point of view and have identified the top 5 issues that were facing me when i was the CEO of the REA Group. Read on to find out my thoughts.

  1. Selection, retention and motivation of great leaders at the senior levels
  2. Strategy development and alignment of the business around the strategy
  3. Culture improvement and development
  4. Global alignment – especially hard given the times zones, languages, local cultures
  5. Board management and relationships

What is interesting is that i was recently reading the Management Today (Australian Institute of Management) and they listed the top 6 management issues (based on a survey) facing CEO’s.  They were:

  1. Leadership
  2. Managing organisational culture
  3. Motivating staff
  4. Personal development
  5. Work / life balance
  6. Achieving key objectives and outcomes.

I would love to hear back from the readers of MyCEOLife and hear what you think the top issues facing C-Level management today.
